Common questions from guests before and during their stay

Before You Visit

Búzios has a warm semi-tropical climate year-round. The best all-around weather window is April–June, centered on May: sunniest, driest, mild temperatures (avg high 25°C), and low-season pricing. High season (December–February) is hot, festive, and busiest. August is closed for annual refurbishment. See our full Climate Guide for the complete month-by-month breakdown.

Yes. Búzios is one of Brazil's safest tourist destinations. The peninsula geography means there is only one road in and out, which naturally limits crime. The local economy depends entirely on tourism, so the community has strong incentives to keep visitors safe. Walking at night along the Orla Bardot and downtown is common and normal. Families with children and solo travelers feel at ease here.
The Brazilian Real (BRL, R$) is the official currency. Most restaurants, shops, and services accept credit and debit cards. USD and EUR are not commonly accepted directly at businesses — use ATMs for cash or pay by card. There are ATMs on Rua das Pedras (downtown) and at Porto da Barra. Current exchange rate reference: approximately R$5–6 per USD (check before travel).
Brazilian Portuguese is the primary language. In tourist areas — restaurants, hotels, and shops on the main strips — English and Spanish are commonly spoken. Most restaurant menus include English translations. Spanish speakers will find Búzios particularly easy, as Argentine tourists are the largest visitor group and many businesses cater to them. Our own hosts speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Year-round: light, breathable clothing, sunscreen (SPF 50+), sunglasses, sandals, and a hat. High season (Dec–Feb): light summer clothes, plenty of sunscreen, a light rain layer for afternoon showers. Best Weather season (Apr–Jun): add a light sweater or jacket for evenings (temperatures drop to 18–20°C at night). Low season (Jul–Sep): bring a medium jacket for evenings, warmer swim gear if you plan to surf. Always: comfortable walking shoes (cobblestone streets on Rua das Pedras), reusable water bottle, insect repellent for evenings.
